Grupo de Teatro SINERGIA│Los Angeles, California
AYOTZINAPA (SITUACIÓN: DESAPARECIDO) tells the true story of the disappearance of 43 rural student teachers working with indigenous communities in 2014. Using news sources, the story of each victim unfolds. It’s believed government officials and the army conspired against the school, due to its progressive ideology. To date no concrete evidence regarding a culprit has been determined. AYOTZINAPA deals with erasure of people and opportunities for the indigenous communities, as well as the lack of government accountability. Mexico has one of the highest rates of disappearances in the world.

Grupo de Teatro SINERGIA
Grupo de Teatro SINERGIA was founded in 1987 with the following goals: to promote Latinx theater in the Los Angeles area with professional bilingual plays (English/Spanish) focusing on the problems and social issues confronting our community; to offer workshops (in English and in Spanish) for at-risk youth, and adults in theatre, animation and photography; and to provide emerging artists an opportunity to present their work to the public. We are the only theater in Los Angeles with a permanent home, focusing on theater in Spanish. We presently serve a highly transient, zero to low-income population, comprised mostly of first generation Latinx immigrants. We are located in one of the most densely populated and economically depressed areas of Los Angeles on the outskirts of Downtown. The Frida Kahlo Theater welcomes the diversity of Latinx theatremakers, serving as a home for the many itinerant Latinx theater companies in Los Angeles. Twelve years ago, we created the Frida Kahlo Theater 10-Minute Theater Festival to give new and emerging Latinx writers, directors and performers a platform to explore and present their work to the public. Notable SINERGIA productions include Frida Kahlo, The Women of Juarez, Malinche, The Night of Cuauhtemoc and Esclavas (Slaves). AYOTZINAPA - Production History - Originally produced by Grupo de Teatro SINERGIA at the Frida Kahlo Theater, it ran for 12 weeks, from fall 2014 through winter 2015.
