Latino Theater Company presents
by Rebeca Aleman
Directed by Iraida Tapias
Water People Theater│Chicago, Illinois
Inspired by true events, The Delicate Tears Of The Waning Moon addresses the relentless violation of human rights against journalists who strive to report the truth. Paulina, a journalist advocating for indigenous communities and victims of femicide, has recently emerged from a coma after a brutal attack. To achieve justice, she needs to recover her memory and reveal the truth. She only remembers having a mother and a daughter. Rodrigo, her best friend, is by her side and makes unimaginable efforts to assist her. Our first run was at Steppenwolf 1700 in Chicago in 2019, followed by performances at Repertorio Español NY in 2024, Instituto Cervantes of Chicago (September-October 2024). The play is Jeff Recommended and now will be part of Encuentro 2024.

Water People Theater
Water People Theater emerged on September 21, 2001, in conjunction with the International Day of Peace. This deliberate choice of inception date highlights our firm conviction in the transformative power of theater as a catalyst for social change. We are driven by the belief that theater has the unique ability to inspire collective action and create cross-cultural cooperation between diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic communities. As a Latina and immigrant-led theater, our mission is to leverage the power of high-quality performances and educational offerings to advance social values and defend human rights. We aim to inspire diverse audiences to become changemakers contributing to more equitable, just, and inclusive communities. In the past 23 years, our mission has shaped our on-stage and off-stage programming, impacting the lives of over 119,000 individuals with 39 productions, 23 seasons, five short films defending human rights, and ten peace campaigns. We have participated in 12 international theater and film festivals, notably leading the opening of the Chicago International Latino Theater Festival "Destinos" for three consecutive years (2017-2019) and launching their International Cultural Exchange Program in Mexico City. We're honored to have received two ACE Awards in NYC, an ALTA Award, and a Jeff Award in Chicago.
