Repertorio Español│New York, New York

Ms. Amelia, a meticulous and well-respected singing coach, receives Ramon, a young man who wants to improve his vocal technique, to sing a tribute at his recently deceased mother’s memorial. The chosen song, “La Golondrina,” has a special meaning for him and, apparently, for Amelia, who, despite her initial reluctance, agrees to give him a lesson. As the afternoon progresses, the two characters unravel the details of their past, deeply marked by a terrorist attack in a LGBTQIA+ bar.

Developed and devised by Repertorio Español in collaboration with Tantai Teatro PR

Repertorio Español

Founded in 1968 by René Buch and Gilberto Zaldívar, the mission of Repertorio is to produce an unparalleled repertoire of contemporary and classical plays from Spain, Latin America, and the Hispanic-American community; and to instill a sense of pride in heritage for all Latinos in the United States as well as create opportunities for cultural exchange with all Americans. Repertorio's ongoing history of excellence has earned it national and international acclaim. Repertorio boasts an array of OBIE, Drama Desk, ACE, HOLA, and ENCORE Awards. Today, under the leadership of Executive Artistic Director Rafael Sánchez, the Company offers each season a repertory of 8 different productions (1-2 new works added annually), programs to promote the work of emerging Latinx artists (readings of new works, commissions, and opportunities for young/emerging directors) and activities for students and seniors. Since its premiere in London in 2017, La Golondrina has been presented in 15 countries around the world. It has been performed in Madrid for three years and has moved to Catalonia. It has entered the rotation of plays in Repertorio Español where the play will continue to be performed. La Golondrina had its premiere at Repertorio Español on January 20th, 2023.
