Cara Mía Theatre│Dallas, Texas
YHiKM is a movement manifesto for bodies in struggle, under attack, and the targets of structural violence. A call to action, imploring us to break free from the systems that are trying to kill us, from privatized health care to the prison industrial complex to corporatized education. Cuz capitalism is toxic, y’all, but the Revolution is not in your body butter. Based on lessons learned from the treatments and consejos of curanderas, abortion doctors, Marxist artists, community health workers, and bougie dermatologists, the escape hatches to freedom are everywhere we are willing to see them.

Cara Mía Theatre
Founded in 1996 as the first professional Dallas theatre to focus on the Mexican-American experience, Cara Mía Theatre (CMT) has evolved into reflecting the experiences of all Latinos living in the United States. With a Latinx population of over 43% in Dallas, Latinx theatre is vital to the city’s cultural fabric and CMT’s mission is to serve the cultural needs of this fast-growing population. CMT produces a full season of 3-4 productions each year (including an international theatre festival), tours locally, nationally, and internationally, curates dynamic community programming throughout Dallas, and provides innovative programs for youth. CMT provides outreach for all productions through its Community Action programming which includes: Youth Nights at the Theatre, post-show discussions with the artists, and Community Conversations with community leaders on real-world issues in the plays. Additionally, CMT provides innovative and transformational programs for youth. This includes culturally specific in-school and after-school residencies, bilingual touring productions and student matinee performances aligned with Texas Education Knowledge Standards (TEKS), and original curricula for CMT’s flagship program, The School of YES! The School of YES! is free to participants with a mission to give young people the tools to say “yes” to a future of their choice through multi-disciplinary arts programs. In December 2023, CMT launched an educator’s portal for teachers to access virtual plays, lesson plans for classroom activities on each play, and an online survey. The goal of the educators’ portal is to reach schools in cities where a professional Latinx theatre does not exist. CMT will continue to focus on extending its reach to Texas cities via the online educators’ portal.
